Planning & Environmental

We have a focused Planning and Environmental Team with experience in advising throughout the planning application and EIA process and representation at appeals or inquiries.  We also advise on applications for all the necessary environmental and regulatory consents, particularly in the waste and energy sectors.

We believe that proactive and practical advice at the outset helps to ensure delivery and avoid delays from Judicial Review.  We also provide environmental and planning due diligence for property and corporate transactions and are active in protecting defendants in environmental civil claims and prosecutions particularly in the waste sector and water pollution incidents.  Karen Blair heads up this Unit and is a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

The Chambers Legal Directory has recognised our experience in this area for many years and the current edition describes the team as ‘ absolutely excellent and always up to speed’ and ‘attentive and responsive’

Karen is particularly recommended in planning and environmental law in Northern Ireland, where she is described as having ‘a wealth of experience’, ‘detailed understanding of the law and great communication skills’, for being ‘highly competent, detailed and very incisive’ and generally for her ‘straightforward and client focused approach’

Claire Duffy, an Associate with the team, is also recommended for her ‘quick responses and accurate advice’.

Our unique experience of dealing with these issues on a daily basis enables our clients to get immediate advice and guidance.

Clients include Titanic Quarter which is leading the redevelopment of the old shipyard in Belfast, AES Kilroot Power Limited which operates a power station near Carrickfergus, George Best Belfast City Airport and Airtricity, a leading windfarm operator.
