Liquor Licensing this Christmas and New Year 2017

December 19, 2017

The Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 regulates the sale of alcohol within Northern Ireland and sets out trading hours for the various categories of licence. It is important to note that at Christmas the licensing hours vary from normal trading hours. In terms of Christmas trading hours the Licensing (NI) Order 1996 sets down a restriction on hours of trade on Christmas Day.

Some licence holders may have applied for an Article 44 Additional Permitted Hours Certificate which enables them to trade for an additional 2 hours each day. There is no extension to normal trading hours on Christmas Day even where an Article 44 additional permitted hours certificate is in force.

It is for individual licence holders to check their own licence to determine what type of licence they hold and whether an Article 44 Certificate applies to their premises.

The hours for trade for the Christmas period 2017 are as follows:-
