The Mediation Bill 2017, Republic of Ireland, was passed by the Dáil on 13 July 2017. The Bill now moves to the Seanad for further consideration and scrutiny. It is hoped that there will be minimal amendments. The passing of this Bill is a milestone for mediation across both jurisdictions. The obligations that this Bill imposes on legal advisers should assist in encouraging earlier resolution of all civil litigation. Whilst not directly applicable to Northern Ireland it will undoubtedly shape the future for our own legislature. Further updates will follow as the Bill progresses.
