Cleaver Fulton Rankin Solicitors serves-up designer breakfast

October 13, 2016

Belfast Design Week and Cleaver Fulton Rankin Solicitors are delighted to invite creatives and designers from a wide range of backgrounds to their ‘Designer Breakfast’ event taking place on Friday 11th November at the Thinking Cup, Belfast.

Running as part of the Belfast Design Week 2016 programme, this fringe event will offer entrepreneurs and those working within creative and marketing industries the opportunity to hear from industry experts on the importance of ensuring brilliant ideas are adequately protected

Designed to encourage creative individuals to consider the wider legal factors at play when taking a concept to market, Designer Breakfast welcomes start-ups, freelancers, and professionals from larger organisations and aims to reach out to creators from diverse sectors, from graphic/web design to R&D specialists. Michael King from Cleaver Fulton Rankin Solicitors will give a workshop on intellectual property protection at the event as well as answering questions during the session.

Karishma Kusurkar, Belfast Design Week said: “As designers we are often conditioned to using the right-hand side of the brain, focusing on aesthetics and ergonomics, and sometimes preparing for worst-case scenarios like IP infringement takes a backseat, especially for independent professionals. We believe events like Designer Breakfast are important for raising awareness of such subjects and hopefully prompting delegates to allocate time to putting cautionary measures in place for their businesses.”

Director Michael King, Cleaver Fulton Rankin Solicitors said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting this business breakfast with Belfast Design Week. IP can be something overlooked and then unfortunately it becomes too late to protect an idea. Northern Ireland has a rich creative industry but in this digital age, inventors are more exposed to idea theft more than ever, at this event we hope to at the very least bring attention to this.”

Taking heed of industry trends highlighting the growth in export sales for NI businesses, Belfast Design Week have also invited Vicky Kell from Invest NI to deliver a lightning talk on avenues designers can explore for exporting their intellectual property safely as an expansion option.

Cleaver Fulton Rankin Solicitors are also supporting Belfast Design Week by sponsoring the Designed By. runway show taking place on Tuesday 8th November at The MAC, Belfast.

The Designer Breakfast event is free to attend and admission includes breakfast. For further information and to RSVP visit www.belfastdesignweek.com.
