November 27, 2013

Cleaver Fulton Rankin’s Assistant Solicitor, Darren Marley has been appointed to the Board of WheelWorks as part of Arts & Business NI’s Young Professionals on Arts Board programme, which aims to shape a new generation of business leaders who are keen to take an active role in their community by becoming a trustee or non-executive director of an arts or cultural charity.

As part of the programme, Darren will work closely with the youth arts organisation WheelWorks which supports children and young people ‘s social and cultural development through accessible and innovative community based programmes that provide a creative fusion of traditional and digital art forms, harnessing the arts for learning and change and giving young people a voice.

As a WheelWorks Board member Darren will explore the role as a non-executive director and ultimately be directly involved in the strategic direction of the organisation, while the charity will benefit from Darren’s energy, commercial perspectives, networks and legal expertise.

Commenting on his appointment Darren Marley stated, “Having the opportunity to join the board and be directly involved with decision making for WheelWorks will present a unique insight into challenges faced by arts organisations and the role and responsibilities of a company director. I hope my involvement on the board with my existing skill set and experience will benefit WheelWorks while providing me with a great opportunity for professional and personal development.

WheelWorks Manager Lucy McCullagh added, ‘We are delighted that Darren has joined our board – already his input has been invaluable and we look forward to benefitting from his skills and enthusiasm into the future.’

“Cleaver Fulton Rankin is a very committed supporter of the arts in Northern Ireland having now enabled ten of their employees to become actively involved in Non-Executive Directorships with arts organisations through our Young Professionals on Arts Boards Programme. Arts & Business NI is delighted with this most recent appointment, and I look forward to watching this partnership between Darren and WheelWorks continue to flourish, and also to seeing the resounding benefits it will deliver to all involved. ” Tania Carlisle, Learning & Performance Manager, Arts & Business NI.
