Charities Update – Registration & Guidance

June 18, 2010

The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland has provided an update on the current work of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland and, in particular, on the status of the Guidance on the Public Benefit Test and timeframe for registration of charities in Northern Ireland.

The Guidance on the Public Benefit Test will provide charities with guidance on what legal requirements must be satisfied to permit registration as a charity in Northern Ireland. The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland is awaiting the results of an investigation before this guidance can be issued and the process of registering charities in Northern Ireland can commence. This will mean that the registration of charities will be delayed and will not take place at the end of June, as had been previously planned.

Further information on the current work undertaken by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland is available at http://www.dsdni.gov.uk/charity-commission-latest-work-update.htm.
