September 8, 2009

Cleaver Fulton Rankin is delighted to be involved as legal advisors to the Lyric Theatre NI as work continues at the new state of the art theatre, scheduled for completion in Spring 2011.

The £17 million refurbishment programme will see the original Ridgeway Street site transformed and the new-look Lyric will include a 380 seat main auditorium, a 140 seat studio and spacious bars overlooking the Lagan. A wide range of high level legal advices have assisted in the project including work on property and corporate issues together with construction matters.

The Lyric is one of a number of DCAL’s strategic arts infrastructure projects and the Department has worked closely with the Theatre and the Arts Council to progress this important project, which is scheduled for completion in early 2011. Arts and Culture Minister, Gregory Campbell said:

“My Department has committed over £9 million towards a total project cost of £17.854 million to this project. This is much needed investment in our cultural infrastructure, investment which will also help alleviate some of the current pressures being felt in our construction industry.”

Adding her support, Roisín McDonough, Chief Executive at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland commented:

“As the principal funder of the Lyric Theatre for decades, the Arts Council is delighted to see the start of the new build. The Lyric has nurtured and developed our theatrical talent for many years and this new 21st century venue will provide excellent facilities for our performing artists and the creative support services involved in theatrical production. It will also increase the opportunities for everyone to participate in and enjoy the arts, not only as audience members, but also as participants in exciting education and outreach programmes.”
